Helena Tobin is an artist, researcher and educator based in rural Co. Tipperary. She holds an MA in Visual Art Practices from IADT, Dun Laoghaire and BA Fine Art from Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork. Through the use of mixed media and installation, Helena explores and questions structures of belief, and how these, often hidden beliefs, affect our idea of culture, of our place in society and our concept of history. Helena was co-founder of SITEATION, an artists’ collective and project space in Dublin (2012-2014) and in 2013 was an invited artist in residence at the Kilkenny Arts Festival. Helena has worked as assistant curator at the Fenton Gallery (2003-2009) and was assistant editor and project co-coordinator on ‘Representing Art in Ireland’, (2008). In 2010, she was awarded the Tipperary Council‘s Emerging Artist Bursary. She has been a member of Ormond Studios, Dublin, and the Backwater Studios, Cork, and works part-time as a photography tutor and workshop facilitator. Her work has been exhibited throughout Ireland and is in the collections of the OPW and Cork Institute of Technology.
