Born 1968
Liam O’Callaghan is an Irish artist born 1968, who studied at Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology. His photographs, projections and installations consider questions of what we value and why, and notions of preciousness, beauty, aesthetics and aesthetic experience. O’Callaghan has exhibited nationally and internationally since 2000, including solo exhibitions at Belfry Gallery, Aalst; Rasche Ripken Gallery, Berlin; the RHA, and Temple Bar Gallery and Studios, Dublin. He participated in IMMA’s Artists’ Residency Programme in 2004. O’Callaghan uses photography, projection, installation and books ranging from fine art to social documentary, in the exploration and construction of his work. Liam’s work deals with questions of what we value and why, notions of success, preciousness, of beauty, quality and importance, while also dealing in an investigation of aesthetics and the aesthetic experience. Through his work, Liam seeks to inspire the viewer and himself both emotionally and intellectually, but also aims to challenge us to re-access our habitual responses.
