History
Richmond Road Studios is an artists-led organization, committed to providing studio space for emerging and established visual artists. It provides a forum for its members to actively participate within the visual arts, through supporting and promoting their activities.
Richmond Road Studios was established in 2002 under the name Pigdog Studios. Since then, the organization has evolved from providing basic studio spaces for its members, to becoming a more autonomous, structured and cohesive organization. The studio was renamed as Richmond Road Studios in 2007. The studios are managed by a committee of current studio members and are now one of the largest studios in Dublin.
Richmond Road Studios aims to develop and strengthen its current studio status through improving the physical work space it provides for its members, promoting the work of its members and strengthening its connections with other professional bodies. 1
The creative studio was evicted from their original location on Richmond Road on June 23 2022, with six days’ notice. 2
In early Spring, Richmond Road Studios initially agreed upon August 31 as an exit date. According to the studio, property owner and multinational firm Kroll conducted a health and safety report on May 16 and on June 8, artists were told to vacate the premises due to “fire safety hazards”.
Richmond Road then renegotiated an exit deadline of July 6, but were told on June 17 they had six days to vacate the premises.
Richmond Road studios then relocated to Phibsborough Tower following its eviction in summer 2022. 3
