History

In the creative environment of the Aufbau Haus on Moritzplatz in Kreuzberg, 15 to 20 publications per year appear under the direction of Jochen Stamm. The monographs, illustrated books, catalogs and travel guides that are produced here are the result of creative work by artists and authors, productive collaboration with cultural foundations and institutions; they are designed, edited and produced with love and expertise. This finds its echo in a far-reaching media reception and a great popularity among the public and in the book trade. The publisher’s books have also received multiple awards such as the German Photo Book Prize, the European Publishers Award for Photography and the German Garden Book Prize.

In 2011, the publishing house moved to the Aufbau Haus on Moritzplatz in Berlin, and since 2019 it has been part of the Aufbau publishing house.
The history of the edition goes back almost 100 years. Founded in Heidelberg in 1913, initially as a printer, Paul Braus developed a steadily increasing publishing activity with a focus on regional and city history.

Especially in the 1970s under Günter Braus, the program is expanded, Edition Braus develops into a nationally important publishing house and makes a name for itself with books on the subjects of art and photography of high quality and style. The publishing house continues this tradition to this day. 1
