To celebrate the remarkable achievements of Jesse Jones – an artist uniting Ireland’s formidable strength in the visual arts, theatre and dance, Talbot Rice Gallery and Edinburgh University Press are delighted to announce the publication of a book that charts the research and cultural analysis of the artworks – Tremble Tremble and The Tower and the political climates they were born from. This richly illustrated catalogue is published on the occasion of Jesse Jones’ exhibition The Tower at Talbot Rice Gallery, with contributions from feminist activist and writer Silvia Federici, curator Tessa Giblin, leading Irish academics Tina Kinsella and Lisa Godson, actress and poet Naomi Moonveld-Nkosi, writer and curator Tara Londi, acclaimed choreographers Junk Ensemble, and an interview that spans the making of both artworks with Jesse Jones. ¹

Jesse Jones is a Dublin-based artist. Her practice crosses the media of film, performance and installation. Often working through collaborative structures, she explores how historical instances of communal culture may hold resonance in our current social and political experiences. Jones’ practice is multi-platform, working in film installation, performance and sculpture. Her recent work proposes a re-imagining of the relationship between the Law and the body through speculative feminism. ²

With a 19th-century former natural history museum and a contemporary white cube to fuel its engine, Talbot Rice Gallery is dedicated to exploring how the University of Edinburgh can contribute to contemporary art production today and into the future. Solo exhibitions provide international artists with access to University research and collections, whilst conceptual group exhibitions foreground key political and social issues. Raising the volume on female self-empowerment, exploring frontiers in the age of Brexit, or interrogating debt at a time of the cost-of-living crisis, Talbot Rice Gallery positions itself at the forefront of research and creative practice. ³
